Nostalgic Treasures for the Super Bowl Despondent

I know that there are still some of you with some Christmas Gift Cash left trying to figure out what to buy with all your leftover holiday loot. Super Bowl Sunday is coming up. And the TV pushers usually have some good deals feeding off that day. You could add a little more cash with it and go out and buy that Mitsubishi – Diamond 73″® 1080p DLP HDTV, the Bose Acoustimass® 16 Series II home entertainment 6.1 surround sound speaker system and all the Monster® gold tipped wires/connections and Monster® surge protectors needed to set them up. And since I am in a that 70’s type mood, you could invite me over and we could sit back in LAZ-Boy® recliners munching down on Rudy’s Chips Deluxe and swilling down frosty cold Mountain Dew while we were watching the Star Wars episodes 1-6 (Wow movie sequels starting in the 70’s spanning alnost 30 years!) marathon and the Puppy Bowl (not really a 70’s thing) on Super Bowl Sunday. (No Bears – No Super Bowl for thescoundrel.) That would be great. There is nothing greater than good food and swilling the Dew while watching the Puppy Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday, when Da Bears ain’t playing! What!! 😥 You aren’t entirely ready to invest those $7000.00+ dollars to entertain and feed thescoundrel for a day, sigh, oh well, here are a few chuckles and Super Bowl distractions, perfect for someone in a those 70’s mood or anyone else in need of a good laugh planning on avoiding Super Sunday.

What self-respecting that 70’s type person doesn’t get all teary eyed during 70’s flashbacks of all those Nixon Idiosyncrasy good times? Well you can bring all those funny moments listening to David Frye’s I Am the President and radio Free Nixon audio albums! (I have these both on 8-track somewhere in an attic. Great fun. A thanks for the memories, Tricky Dick, extravaganza!)

How about watching some classic SNL! Gilda Radner, James Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtain, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray. Some of their skits like Fred Garvin male Prostitute and Akroyds buddying up with Belushi in his Blues brothers skits even have a Quad City script connection. Of course if you are buying tapes, the real problem with SNL, seems to be what they include in the anthologies is not always the skits you want to see. Shop around.

Since it is an election year, perhaps you can find some Mark Russel tapes. He was the face of political humor on Public TV for over thirty years.

Maybe you want something more family friendly! Well for me family friendly humor is Bill Cosby. He has been my favorite comedian since I was a kid. He is the Master of comedy for me. His early stuff is on audio, like 200 mph and the chicken heart, but he does have some video out. His mid 80’s tape called himself is one I listen to regularly. It never gets old. Some of his audio can actually be down loaded.

A link for the under 29+ years of age, oblivious to the 8-track fad of the mid 70’s and early 80’s. For some it has evidently become a way of life.
