The Sarah Palin-Joe Biden Debate – Pundits Eagerly Await

The Presidential/VP debates have become all about sound bytes. I suspect the upcoming debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden will be no different. Each candidate will be looking to come across with some catchy lyric of wisdom that can be used to hammer on his or her opponent. The candidates will also be looking for some catchy lyrical blunder that makes his or her opponent look silly or out of touch. Both political camps will be looking for that perfect sound byte that will make them a blockbuster commercial. The BBC discussed gaffe potentials concerning the upcoming Biden-Palin Vice Presidential debate. I am also wondering which candidate will look smoother myself. Palin is relatively new and though she is hyped as tough in debate she has already managed to create some lyrical content for the Obama Camp. And you would think that as long as Biden has been in politics that he would have smoothed off the rough edge of his public speaking ability, but time and time again he has proven otherwise. Yet over the years Biden has created some rather nasty scandals with insults to voting blocs as well as getting caught in a plagiarism scandal. Biden the debater supposedly with experience continues to create skeletons in his closet through poor public speaking. I am also sure that the pundit police will be dissecting both candidates’ words as they roll off their tongues during the debate. In examination, televised political debates have become more like entertainment than actual political discourse.

  1. Why not question that the moderator, Gwen Ifill, of the upcoming Biden-Palin debate is pro-Obama. She wrote a book that praises Obama, obviously she will try her best to make Palin look bad in the debate Why couldn’t the moderator be more fair and bi-partisan?

Why not make fun of Joe Biden, who thinks FDR was President in 1929, and thinks paying more taxes is patriotic?

  2. Did you know that Joe Biden has gotten earmarks for a bridge project in Delaware that has been redesigned 3 times. It has also had contract problems and is years behind schedule. It is much more wasteful than the bridge in Alaska that wasn’t built See the full article on

  3. […] As I said during the primaries, it would be better for the candidates to debate each other in the manner of the Lincoln-Douglas debates without the intrusion of the press. As it is, these debates are political theatre and has very little to do with issues and everything to do with getting a good sound bite. […]

  4. There is not a pork barreled project that would surprise me if a politician gets the chance to place one on a bill. Nothing Biden would do would surprise me either. He has a long history of open mouth/insert foot.

QCEx and Equality I totally agree on the poor choice as a moderator. But the media probably thinks they are being stylish and proper.

  5. Sarah Palin is going to crush Joe Biden tonight because she is a Master Debater. Just check it out for yourself. The pic on this site says it all (scroll down once you get there):

  6. Palin had all of the advantages going into this debate. The public has low expectations of her, so it was going to be easy to impress them. She also knew that neither the moderator or Biden could attack her. Biden would look like a bully picking on a vulnerable woman while the moderator would be accused of favoritism since she has published a relatively favorable book about Obama. The only thing Palin has needed to do was rehearse how to bring up a canned attack against Biden at every possible opportunity.

Biden can only grin and bear it like a man being slapped by a girl.

Oh, and did anyone else notice Palin’s butt? I couldn’t help noticing due to the frequent ‘backside’ views offered by the cameras. That was very considerate of the media.

  7. The debate was basically a wash. I expected no more or less. Both candidates were well rehearsed. If there was a winner it was Palin, not because of anything she said, but because she proved she could stand on the same stage with an experienced debater like Biden and go toe-to-toe. In that point alone she was a winner as she proved she was worthy of the position she was seeking. I see no realistic way that McCain can pull off this election against the Agent of Shame, Barack Obama. Still I like most people wrote him off from even winning the Republican nomination. Anything is possible I suppose. Still if I were a member of the inner circle of Republican talking heads I would be grooming Palin for a run in the next election. Greta Van Sustren put it best when she chimed that Palin had the ability to communicate with the everyday American.
