US Senate Says No to Obama Replacement Roland Burris

The Harry Reid led US Senate has rejected the appointment of Roland Burris, as the Junior Senator for the State of Illinois. Their reasoning behind the rejection is that the paperwork is not finished. They are correct on this point. But the question is – why is the paperwork not finished? Could it be that the refusal of Jesse White to finish the paperwork for the State of Illinois is because he is receiving pressure from Illinois Democrat Insiders to stifle the process. No one, not one State of Federal legislator has put forth a claim that Roland Burris is not a worthy candidate to replace Barack Obama. The whole stifling of the process revolves around the current seated Illinois legislators hatred and distrust of current Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Blagojevich’s shortcomings were not unknown before the Democrat Party helped put him in and keep him in power. Blagojevich was still their lead attack dog in holding power in Illinois politics. Yet now, they all claim his choice cannot be trusted. That is the pot calling the kettle black. Burris may or may not be the best person for the job. I am not a Burris fan. If appointed I am sure he will vote more times against than for the issues that drive my vote. But the reason state and federal legislators do not want Burris appointed is not because is unworthy but because he is not their personal hand selected puppet. Their choices and actions in this process have been no less honorable than Blagojevich. That should not be of any surprise since during election time they were all one big happy family seeking to hold the jaws of life grip on the entrance door to Illinois politics. The rejection of Burris has nothing to do about worthiness or even the legal problems of Blago, it is all about placing a puppet into Obama’s former Senate seat that Democrat State and Federal power players can control the puppet strings.

  1. But as a junior senator, Burris would have no say on any important matter anyway. I don’t think it is a conspiracy, but rather an attempt to avoid further embarrassments.

  2. I agree that part of the problem is legislators trying to save face. But mostly it is a power struggle by those looking to grab a better rung on the political favor ladder. I do not now if it is as much conspiracy as legislative obstinacy and greed. Burris is more than qualified to hold the position he has been appointed to. Almost everyone agrees that he is as clean a candidate that you will find in Illinois. But they do not want to seat him because he is not beholding to the people in power right now.

Though it will not work the same for Burris, the Junior Senator position was a nice stepping stone for Obama.

  3. It’s a sad day when a clownish hack like Reid has more say over who our US Senator will be than we do.

Are we really supposed to believe that Quinn’s selection will be better or more valid or more legal or less tainted?

On the bright side, it looks like there really be clowns in the Senate—foul-mouthed comic Al Franken has been certified and will be a bottomless well of bloggy goodness—along with Gaff-O-Matic Biden and (with luck) the air-head Caroline Kennedy.

When you factor in all the looming pay-for-play Democrat scandals, there has never been a better time to be a blogger!

  4. Business as usual.

QCEx, Blago and the Daley/Obama/Rezko/JOnes/Blago connections should make for a lot of fun blogging.
