Quinn Lied – No Money for Nothing or Chicks for Free

The Quad Cities, Illinois and the rest of the world were informed of what can only be described as incredibly unbelievable  news by local Quad City leadership. According to a Quad City Online article -by Brandy Donaldson– the various mayors and state legislators that help comprise the Illinois side of the Quad Cities, feel that Illinois Governor Pat Quinn lied to them about the tax revenue funding they were to receive from the State of Illinois.  I too  must express my disbelief 🙄  that Governor Quinn  -who follows a long line of fellow “honest” Illinois legislators” such as Gov. George Ryan (sorry I am unaware of his prisoner identification number), Gov. Rod Blagojevich (final trial & eventual incarceration date yet to be determined), current  and deceased Chicago Mayors Richard Daley Jr./Sr.,  current President Barack Obama, his advisor Rham Emanuel etc… –> would stoop to deceive our local leaders. I am also shocked 🙄  that Governor Quinn would consider cutting state funds destined for the Quad Cities! Just because the State of Illinois is in a huge financial crisis- brought about by around a $142 billion deficit which has caused them not to pay many of the businesses and individuals it owes- is no reason to cut the funds of these whining mayors.   I am just flabbergasted by this turn of events, where an Illinois politician not only lies to our local mayors – but for some reason he is evidently also incapable of  getting them money for nothing or chicks for free! I guess that only works for rock stars.

Now I do not pretend that these are all of our famous Illinois political alumni. But I could spend the rest of my life listing “honest” Illinois politicians. Especially from around the Chicago area. Please fell free to list and/or add links to other “honest” Illinois politicians!

  2. The Dispatch article is so juicy I’m thinking about blogging about it too.

But one of the things I thought was interesting was the sub-headline, which read: “Welvaert: Quinn lied about state budget plans”

I read the article several times, but I never saw a direct quote from Welvaert that said Quinn “lied”, although it was certainly strongly implied—I guess the headline writer thought the article needed a little punching-up. 🙂

However, the quote that I did think was interesting was this from Dennis Pauley: “This action [by Quinn] merely pushes their [Illinois] financial problems off to another unit of government and to our taxpayers”, like ILQC city taxpayers are different from Illinois taxpayers. Which may be part of the problem; if the cities don’t get all this “free” money from Illinois and the feds, they might to actually raise taxes to pay for their own damned services—the horror!

  3. I was also confused as I looked for a direct quote from Welvaert that Quinn lied. I finally assumed the closing line–> “The mayors were lied to by Gov. Quinn for months, giving them no opportunity to prepare for his proposal, asserted Mayor Welvaert”, from the following paragraph was the way she included the quote.

[City leaders have borrowed, raised taxes, eliminated personnel and cut spending wherever possible to prepare for anticipated budget shortfalls. The mayors were lied to by Gov. Quinn for months, giving them no opportunity to prepare for his proposal, asserted Mayor Welvaert, who also serves as vice president of the Illinois Municipal League.]

–Which may be part of the problem; if the cities don’t get all this “free” money from Illinois and the feds, they might to actually raise taxes to pay for their own damned services–

That is assuming they use a method of tax increase that does not have to face a voting referendum. Tax increases at local levels fail when they are put to a public vote.
